  "History of St. Albans" Video       The St. Albans Historical Society has just finished making a video titled "The History of St. Albans". Over 2 years in the making, it initially is intended for distribution to the local area schools, but is also now being made available to the public.
   Approximately 40 minutes long, it contains over 200 vintage photos, new video scenes of historic properties, plus narration, interviews and music by Joe Dobbs. The cost is $15 VHS and $20 DVD, plus shipping & handling. Call 727-9372 (Bill Dean) or 727-5972 (Neil Richardson) to order one.

   St. Albans Historical Society Meeting

     The St. Albans Historical Society will have their next meeting Sunday 2:00 p.m., April 10 at the Wm. P. Burdette Memorial adjacent to the Depot. Several local school students will be presenting their "Local History" projects for our enjoyment. Let's support our future historians. The public is welcome. 

 

 

 HISTORIC SIDEWALK WALKING TOUR

   The St. Albans Historical Society will sponsor a Historic Sidewalk Walking Tour on Saturday, May 21.  It will begin on historic Old Main Plaza. The noon tour will go along the Main St. Historic District and then on Eighth Ave. to the end and return. The short tours will take approximately on hour. Canceled in case of inclement weather.

   The Tour begin at noon and is free. Neil Richardson, member of the group, will be pointing out the history, stories and architectural details of many of the structures and houses as time allows. We will be passing five National Register properties plus 27 buildings on the National Register on Main St.

    This will be a great chance to not only enjoy a beautiful stroll with your family in this historic area, but also to pick up some unique information and history about these buildings.


 
   We have also just published two new books""The Growing, Booming Years of St. Albans WV, 1885-1910. This book has some firsthand account of life in St. Albans at that time.
"St. Albans - A Historical Sketch, 1938" . This book is a reprint of a 1938 book with numerous photos, adds and a brief history.

   Morgan's Kitchen is available for School Tours (and others) and is Open Memorial Day thru Labor Day on Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Contact one of the listed officers to have your group included.(Located on MacCorkle Ave near the Walnut St. Exxon)

   The St. Albans Historical Society meets five (5) times per year at the Wm. P. Burdette Memorial Building 404,  4th Ave (adjacent to the Depot) on the 2nd Sunday of February, April, June, September and November at 2:00 p.m.. EVERYONE WELCOME !!

 

Recent Donations:

- Barbara Bacon Estate has donated several files containing newspaper articles, photos and various memorabilia collected over the year by this charter member of the Historical Society who died recently
- Richard Milam has donated the 1938 framed original Lions Club Charter to the Historical Society.
- Dean Braley has donated two of his archaeology books to us.
- St. Albans American Legion has donated a 1919 Calendar listing 96 local servicemen serving in WWI.
- Rosemary Clendenin for various vintage St. Albans Photos.
- Tom Tilton for 1970's Civil War Illustrated and American History Illustrated.
- James Randall for over 500 slides of St. Albans in the 1960's & 70's, including Town Fair and the Library dedication. He also gave us a box of aerial view post cards of our town from the 1980's.

Historic Slides:
Tom McKeny and Neil Richardson have shown our new slides "St. Albans 1900-1950" to elementary schools and we hope do more this fall. Let them know if you know of any civic group or school, etc. that may want to see them. Call 727-5972.

Historical Building and Depot School Tours
We have given several recent elementary tours of the Depot and Society Building as well as Morgan's Kitchen.
