Mayor's State of the City Address

State of the City – March 2022

Things have been hopping in St. Albans! The C Street and Olde Main project is well underway and is going to be a nice addition to the area. Hope to have concerts there once a month beginning in May or June. We will call it Saturday Night on Olde Main.

New businesses continue to open in St. Albans; the medical cannabis dispensary, Cannabist, will be opening their St. Albans location the first week of March in the old Pizza Hut Location, and Pets Supplies Plus has begun renovation of the old Aarons Rent to Own building and will be opening in the next month or two.

The St. Albans economy continues to grow! I had lunch the other day with the head of Charleston CVB and he loves what is happening in town. He commented that people in Charleston are saying, “Let’s go to St. Albans this evening for dinner, drinks, and shopping.” And that did not happen in the past!

Deb Austin Brown wrote a wonderful article called “Main Street USA; New Life in St. Albans, Young Entrepreneurs Move Main Street Forward”. Her article was published online by WV Executive Magazine, which is a great magazine and brings more light to St. Albans. The Alban Theatre continues to produce shows and has won several awards recently. We have also begun to show movies down there—2 thus far, and 6 more are scheduled for 2022.

The city is moving forward on a new Police Station to be located in the old Chase Bank building. This is long overdue as the present station was built when there were 13 full-time officers, now there are 26. This will be a State of the Art Facility and will allow SAPD to be more efficient than ever!
Finally, I would like to give a shout out to the street department for the great job that they have done during the recent snowfalls. They have worked around the clock to keep our streets safe for travel! Thank-you to all of our city employees as they take pride in making St. Albans a great place to live and visit!
“Let’s go to Saint Albans this evening for dinner, drinks, and shopping.”
