ST. ALBANS, WV – The City of St. Albans and its Parks & Recreation Department are thrilled to host the 10th Annual “Take a Walk on The Wild Side” Nature Hike at the St. Albans City Park. This much-anticipated event will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 9:00 am to Noon, offering a unique opportunity for families to engage with nature in a fun and educational setting.
This year’s theme, “Wild And Wonderful Nature,” aims to showcase the beauty and diversity of West Virginia’s natural landscape. Attendees can look forward to various activities and exhibits focusing on wildlife, birds, wildflowers, the environment, forestry, agriculture, and weather. Highlights include the “Wings of Wonder: WV Birds of Prey” presentation by The Three Rivers Avian Center, featuring live demonstrations with owls, hawks, falcons, and the majestic Bald Eagle-Regis.

This year’s event will also feature self-guided hikes with leadership along the trail, Paint A Critter, WV DEP activities, Forestry Activities, Face Painting and Sidewalk Chalk, an Obstacle Course, Story Walk, Fire Safety demonstrations by the St. Albans Fire Department, and much more. The Patriot Guardens Display and Reptile Display are among the new additions to this year’s lineup, promising an enriching experience for all ages.
Registration is open from 9 am to 11:30 am on the day of the event. Foundations Church of God will be on-site, providing delicious refreshments for participants.
A key figure behind the success of this annual event is longtime volunteer and event coordinator Debbie Keener. Her unwavering dedication and hard work have been instrumental in bringing the community together to celebrate and learn about the natural world. Debbie’s efforts, alongside the contributions of numerous volunteers and leaders from organizations such as WV Master Naturalists, WV Native Plant Society, WV Division of Forestry, WV Birders, WV Master Gardeners, and WV DEP, ensure a memorable and impactful experience for all attendees.
The St. Albans Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to join this celebration of nature. Commemorative tee shirts will be available for sale, and thanks to the generous support of many sponsors, attendees can look forward to special gifts and prizes. Donations to support the event are welcomed and appreciated.
