The Arts & Live Entertainment is crucial to building a diverse community. Especially in a small town like St. Albans, the arts can bring people together and create a sense of pride in the area. That’s why St. Albans Mayor Scott James and the Alban Arts Center have partnered together to start a new tradition – the Mayor’s Show of the Year.
The Mayor’s Show of the Year will be an event where the Mayor will endorse one show from the Alban Arts Center’s year-long production lineup as a can’t-miss, must-see performance that the Mayor feels strongly about and wants to share with the community.
The first Mayor’s Show of the Year will be Thorton Wilder‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning classic ‘Our Town,’ which will run from October 28 – November 6. What better show to kick off this tradition than a play that focuses on the small town of Grover’s Corners and the people that make it so unique. Just like Grover’s Corners, St. Albans is a great town made great by the people living and breathing within it.
Mayor Scott James is excited to start this new tradition and promote the arts in the community. “The Alban Arts Center provides high-quality live entertainment for our residents,” Mayor James said. “I am honored to partner with them to help promote their performances and continue to grow our local arts scene.”
So mark your calendars for what will be a great night in St. Albans, attending the Mayor’s Show of the Year at the Alban Arts Center on Main Street in downtown St. Albans.

More About the Alban Arts Center
The Alban Arts Center is a small arts organization in the heart of downtown St. Albans. Located within the historic Alban Theater, originally built in 1938 as a movie house, the Alban Arts Center provides a wide array of artistic opportunities for St. Albans and the surrounding community within its intimate 225-seat theater.
Primarily focusing on the performing arts, the Alban produces 4-6 productions every year, in addition to hosting several other theatre companies and touring productions. The Alban, as a small and energetic organization, can segue from large, family-oriented casts to intimate and intense dramas in the course of their season; and even produces an annual Shakespeare in the Park at St. Albans City Park. The Alban also hosts concerts, movies, and a variety of other performances throughout the year.
In addition to producing and hosting theatrical productions, the Alban Arts Center also houses the Alban Arts Academy, a twice-yearly extra-curricular academy that has provided arts education to the greater-metro area since 2010. Academy classes include Acting, Improv, Musical Theatre, and much more.
All classes are taught by local artists, and over 1,000 students from 7 counties have traveled to St. Albans for their arts education needs. Every spring and fall semester the Alban Arts Academy offers 15+ classes and awards scholarships to students that may need them.
