In response to dangerously high temperatures and heat indexes forecasted for the region this week, the City of St. Albans has announced the opening of a public cooling center at the Hansford Center, located at 500 Washington Street.
The cooling center will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 23; Tuesday, June 24; and Wednesday, June 25, 2025. This temporary measure is intended to provide residents a safe, air-conditioned space to escape the extreme heat.
With heat indexes expected to reach the upper 90s and into the 100s, city officials are encouraging everyone to take proper precautions. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, and check in on elderly neighbors and those without access to air conditioning.
The Hansford Center will be staffed and available to anyone in need of relief during the hottest hours of the day.
