St. Albans, WV – January 10, 2025 – The St. Albans Police Department is proud to announce the acquisition of ballistic helmets for its Task Force Team, made possible through a Local Economic Development Assistance Grant. This essential equipment will enhance the safety and readiness of officers during high-risk operations, ensuring they are better equipped to serve and protect the community.
The grant was secured with the steadfast support of Delegate Walter Hall and Senator Eric Nelson, Jr., along with the contributions of Senators Tom Takubo, Rupie Phillips, and Mike Stuart. A check presentation ceremony was held on Friday, January 10, 2025, attended by Chief Marc Gilbert, Mayor Scott James, Delegate Walter Hall, and Senator Eric Nelson, Jr.
Chief Marc Gilbert expressed his gratitude, stating, “The safety of our officers is always a top priority. These ballistic helmets are a vital addition to our Task Force Team’s equipment, and their purchase would not have been possible without the support of Delegate Hall, Senator Nelson, and the other state leaders who championed this grant. Their commitment to public safety makes a real difference.”
Mayor Scott James highlighted the importance of the grant, saying, “This grant exemplifies how state and local leaders can work together to directly impact the safety and well-being of our community. We are deeply grateful to Delegate Hall, Senator Nelson, and Senators Takubo, Phillips, and Stuart for recognizing this need and securing the resources to make it happen.”
Local economic development grants play a vital role in strengthening communities by funding essential initiatives, including equipping first responders with the tools they need to carry out their duties effectively. This unbudgeted purchase underscores the importance of partnerships between local and state leaders to prioritize the safety of both officers and residents.
The St. Albans Police Department extends its deepest thanks to all who made this possible, recognizing that the collective effort of our leaders has a lasting impact on the safety and security of our community.
