Tractor Supply Company Announced as New Anchor Retailer in St. Albans

ST. ALBANS, W.Va. — Mayor Scott James announced Friday that Tractor Supply Company, the nation’s largest rural lifestyle retailer, will open a new store in St. Albans in 2026. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the former Parkway Building on MacCorkle Avenue, where the new store will be located.

Tractor Supply operates in 49 states with more than 2,300 stores nationwide, and the company has plans to expand to more than 3,000 locations in the coming years. Mayor James said St. Albans is now part of that growth.

“With excitement and pleasure, I want to announce that Tractor Supply will be coming to St. Albans, West Virginia,” Mayor James said during the event.

City officials said the project represents a major win for St. Albans’ continued economic development efforts. The store is expected to draw customers from surrounding communities to shop in St. Albans, strengthening the local economy and supporting additional business growth.

“This is a big store, and St. Albans didn’t always meet the logistics that chains look for,” James said. “We don’t have direct interstate access or the highest traffic counts, but Tractor Supply understands our area. Everything north and east of here will be coming to St. Albans to shop.”

The mayor highlighted the retailer’s broad product offerings, noting that Tractor Supply sells far more than agricultural equipment. The store will feature clothing, footwear, toys, pet supplies, tools, and power equipment—products residents previously sought elsewhere since the closure of Kmart years ago.

James also recognized several key partners who played a role in bringing the project to St. Albans. He thanked former building owners Mike and Lee Lewis for working with Tractor Supply on the sale of the property, calling it a “win-win-win” for the Lewis family, the city, and the retailer. He also acknowledged the efforts of Building Inspector Marshall Cheney and Fire Marshal Chris Collins for supporting the project during early review phases.

Tractor Supply has completed asbestos testing at the site and is expected to submit renovation plans in early January. The company aims to open the new St. Albans store in late spring or early summer of 2026.

Mayor James said the announcement signals continued momentum for the city and predicts the store’s arrival will help attract additional businesses to the area.

“I think this is going to spur more economic growth,” James said. “There are a lot of great things happening right now that we can’t yet discuss, but the excitement around this project is real. When a national company like Tractor Supply chooses St. Albans, the entire region benefits.”

City officials expect the increased economic activity to support infrastructure improvements and further enhance the quality of life for residents. James also noted that redeveloping the long-standing Parkway property will eliminate issues associated with its long-term vacancy and bring new energy to the corridor.

Further details will be released as the project progresses.
