CSX Transportation has notified the City of St. Albans of upcoming railroad crossing work expected to affect several crossings in the city on or around June 25, 2026.
The following railroad crossings are expected to be closed at the same time for up to 4 to 5 days, depending on field conditions and the type of work being completed:
- B Street
- C Street
- 2nd Street
- 5th Street
- Walnut Street
The work is part of a larger CSX track maintenance project that began on June 15 and includes railroad tie replacement, crossing maintenance, rail work, and asphalt paving along sections of track in Cabell, Putnam, and Kanawha counties.
Alternate Routes
During the expected closures, drivers should plan ahead and use alternate routes, including:
- Spruce Street railroad crossing
- 3rd Street underpass
- Boone Street underpass
- East end of Kanawha Terrace
- West end through Olde Main
Please allow extra travel time, use caution near work areas, and watch for changing traffic patterns.
Stay Updated With the Interactive Closure Map
The City will provide access to an interactive CSX project map so residents, businesses, and travelers can monitor updates as they become available.
The map allows users to view impacted railroad crossings and click on individual icons for updated information about each location. When viewing the map, use the white panel on the left side of the screen to select Kanawha County and find the St. Albans crossings listed under that section.
Please note that all closure dates and time frames are estimates and are subject to change with or without notice due to field conditions, weather, project needs, or other factors outside the City’s control.
