Dementia Friendly St. Albans and Alzheimer’s Association to Host a Free Dementia Educational Training

St. Albans, WV – Dementia Friendly St. Albans, in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association, is proud to announce a free, community-wide Dementia Educational Training at 6 pm, Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the Alban Arts Center on Main Street.

This Free Dementia Educational Training event aims to provide insight into the vital issue of Dementia. It will emphasize the ten warning signs of Dementia and offer attendees a wealth of knowledge about the community resources available to those managing the condition, personally or within their family.

Esteemed speakers for the Free Dementia Education Training event include Chris Braley from Braley Care Homes and Teresa Morris, State Director, of Alzheimer’s Association. Both are fervent advocates for the Dementia Friendly movement and passionately encourage the community to partake in this insightful gathering.

“Identifying early signs of dementia can profoundly impact care and quality of life,” says Chris Braley. “It’s crucial for everyone in our community to recognize these signs and understand that a robust support network is readily available.”

We are also delighted to acknowledge the presence of WV Delegate Walter Hall at the event. Delegate Hall, alongside Chris Braley and others, played a significant role in helping St. Albans earn its status as a Dementia Friendly City. His unwavering support for the Dementia Friendly initiative continues to inspire our community.

We encourage not only those affected by Dementia or their caregivers to join us but also invite local business owners and community members. Creating a compassionate, informed, and dementia-friendly community begins with understanding. We aim to offer businesses an opportunity to become certified as dementia-friendly, encouraging an atmosphere of empathy and support throughout St. Albans.

Doors will open 15 minutes before the event commences. Attendees can enjoy complimentary refreshments and are encouraged to engage and share experiences with fellow community members.

To ensure a place at this event, please call the Hansford Senior Center at (304) 722-4621 and ask for Sommers Brightwell.

The City of St. Albans is honored to be a designated Dementia Friendly City. Our dedication to building a supportive environment for those living with Dementia, their families, and caregivers continues to influence our community initiatives and policies.

Join us in spreading awareness and understanding about Dementia. Together, we can ensure that St. Albans remains a city that prioritizes the health and well-being of all its residents.
