As we move into spring, the City of St. Albans is reminding residents about a few common code issues that tend to come up this time of year. These are simple things, but they make a big difference in keeping neighborhoods clean, safe, and looking their best.
Please pull trash cans back after pickup
After your household trash has been collected, remember to move trash cans back from street view. This reminder relates to Code 953.16, which addresses the location of refuse storage containers, yard waste, and recycling containers.
Please do not park on grass
Now that winter weather is behind us, the City is also reminding residents not to park vehicles in the grass. Please use your driveway or another proper parking surface instead. This reminder relates to Zoning Ordinance 1327.01(9) for the R-1 Single Family Residential District.
Political signs must follow city and state rules
For residents placing political signs, the City’s handout states that signs must be placed on private property with the owner’s consent and may not be placed on utility poles, trees, rocks, or other natural features. In residential districts R-1, R-2, and R-3, political signs are limited to 6 square feet, while signs in commercial districts are limited to 32 square feet. The handout also states that political signs may be erected up to 60 days before an election and must be removed within 30 days after.
The state handout included with the city material also says political signs may not be placed on or above a Division of Highways right of way, on traffic control signs, or in ways that block visibility at roads or intersections. It also says they should not be placed on rocks, trees, fence posts, or utility poles.
Want to help St. Albans shine this spring?
The City is also encouraging residents to get involved in positive ways. That could mean adopting a flowerbed, helping with a neighborhood cleanup, or simply doing your part to keep your property neat and orderly. There are many ways to help make St. Albans shine.
