St. Albans Proclaims February 2024 as Marfan Syndrome Awareness Month

St. Albans, WV, February 1, 2024 – In a heartfelt ceremony held yesterday evening, Mayor Scott James of the Great City of St. Albans officially declared February 2024 as “Marfan Syndrome Awareness Month.” This significant proclamation aims to shed light on Marfan Syndrome, a life-threatening genetic disorder affecting connective tissues and involving multiple body systems, including the heart and blood vessels.

The proclamation was inspired by the recent diagnosis of local resident Logan Whitlock, bringing the challenges faced by individuals with Marfan Syndrome to the forefront of community awareness. Mayor James, in a moving gesture, presented the proclamation to Logan Whitlock’s family, symbolizing the city’s support and commitment to raising awareness about this often misunderstood and under-diagnosed condition.

“Marfan Syndrome affects 1 in 5,000 individuals worldwide, cutting across all demographics. It’s a condition that brings lifelong challenges, including disability, pain, and a series of multisystem health-related maladies,” said Mayor James. “By declaring February as Marfan Syndrome Awareness Month, we aim not only to support those like Logan who are directly affected but also to educate our community on the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.”

The proclamation highlights the critical need for increased awareness and understanding of Marfan Syndrome, which remains incurable and potentially debilitating. The city of St. Albans encourages all citizens to join in observing Marfan Syndrome Awareness Month, fostering a supportive environment for individuals and families navigating the complexities of the condition.

As part of the observance, the city will host several events and educational programs throughout February to promote understanding and support for those affected by Marfan Syndrome. These initiatives are designed to bridge gaps in knowledge, encourage community solidarity, and highlight the importance of research and healthcare support for this condition.

The city of St. Albans stands with Logan Whitlock, his family, and all individuals affected by Marfan Syndrome. Mayor James and the city council urge the community to come together in support of this important cause, emphasizing that through awareness and education, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those living with Marfan Syndrome.
