Small businesses and private nonprofit organizations in St. Albans and across Kanawha County may now be eligible for low-interest federal disaster loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), following the severe storms that affected the region between February 15–18, 2025.
These Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) are designed to help cover working capital needs such as payroll, rent, utilities, and other bills that could not be paid due to the disaster’s impact—even for businesses that did not suffer physical damage.
Loan amounts can reach up to $2 million, with interest rates as low as 4% for small businesses and 3.625% for private nonprofits. Payment is deferred for 12 months, and no interest accrues during that time. Loan terms are determined based on each applicant’s financial condition, with terms available up to 30 years.
“SBA disaster loans are a vital tool to help local businesses and nonprofits recover from the financial strain caused by emergencies,” said SBA Associate Administrator Chris Stallings. “They help stabilize communities by keeping operations running and people employed.”
Eligible entities in St. Albans can apply now by visiting sba.gov/disaster, calling the SBA Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955, or emailing [email protected]. The deadline to apply is November 26, 2025.
