The St. Albans Police Department received a complaint on July 15, 2022, about a telephone scam. A resident received a telephone call and the caller alleged to be an officer from the Saint Albans Police Department. The caller advised the Saint Albans Police Department had a federal arrest warrant for the person from the Internal Revenue Service and that the citizen would need to pay $3,000 to avoid being arrested. The Saint Albans Police Department wants to make citizens aware of the scam and to request that no money be sent to the caller. All citizens are encouraged to call their local police departments if they receive a similar call.
This is not the first time this type of scam has been reported, and it is likely that the original call was made through a telephone app. The Saint Albans Police Department advises all citizens to be aware of this scam and to report any similar calls to their local police department.
