Yakfest 2023 - Tour de Coal 2023 - St. Albans, WV

State of the City of St. Albans, WV – May 2023

Spring and summer activities in Saint Albans are in full swing. It was a great day naming the new boat dock, The Kenny Sutton Landing. Kenny will now be remembered forever in Saint Albans! The Parks and Rec Department activities are picking up with movie nights, Dragon Palooza, and the pool opening on May 27.

More good things to come! SA is gearing up for its first music night on June 10 at the new town square on Olde Main. We will name and dedicate the square before the music starts at 7:00. There is no cost to come and hear local talent playing music. These concert nights will be on the second Saturday of each month in June, July, August, September, and October at 7:00. Bring your chair and enjoy!

Yak Fest is just around the corner, and it is going to be a great two days—June 16th, beginning at 4:00, and June 17, beginning at 2:00. Music and vendors will be plentiful, as will be attendees. Hannah Dasher is our headliner for Friday night, and the Davisson Brothers will be closing the Yak Fest weekend on Saturday night, with Bucky Covington playing before them. Get there early and have a great time! The country’s largest flatwater kayaking event will take place on June 17.

The Tour de Coal is in its 20th year and looks to be even bigger than before. People from 15-20 states come to Saint Albans to participate in this great event and attend the Yak Fest celebration on Olde Main Plaza. You can get more information, including the music line-up, at YAKFESTWV.COM.

During our administration, there have been 42 dilapidated structures torn down, and work began on the old Saint Albans Junior High School on May 30. They began with the abatement of materials and then the demolition of the building. The eyesore that we have had in this community for over 30 years will be no more.

The SA Historical Society and the Red and Black Athletic Club will be selling bricks. Road paving is in full swing, and we appreciate the residents’ patience and cooperation during this work! May God continue to bless everyone and the great City of Saint Albans!
