Mayor's State of the City Address

State of the City – December 2021

December 2021

The older that I get, the more I dislike cold weather—but with cold weather comes two of my favorite holidays of the year, Thanksgiving and Christmas! This also means that the Saint Albans Parks and Recreation employees are very busy preparing for the Festival of Lights.

This year the Festival of Lights will once again be one of the best—if not the best—light show in the entire State of WV! The walk-through is scheduled for Nov. 23rd, beginning at 6:00. The next evening, November 24th, we are going to have hayrides through the lights. On the 25th we get to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends. Then on the 26th, the Festival of Lights officially opens for the season.

On December 4th, the annual St. Albans Christmas Parade will take place, beginning at 4:00 and running from St. Francis, down 6th Avenue, turning onto 3rd Street, and will travel Olde Main ending at the Loop. It is going to be another great parade!
After the parade, the official Tree Lighting will take place on Olde Main beginning at 6:00. Music, hayrides (weather permitting), a few vendors and more will be taking place after the Tree Lighting Ceremony.

I want to thank the Veteran’s Day Parade Committee for once again putting on an excellent parade to honor our veterans. Saint Albans always does a great job of celebrating and thanking all veterans, past, and present, for their service to our country.
I want to wish each of you very safe holidays and a Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!
Let’s remember the reason for the season! God Bless and take care!
