Mayor's State of the City Address

State of the City – November 2021

A Monthly Message from Mayor Scott James

NOVEMBER 2021 –

Fall is definitely in the air as I am writing November’s newsletter! The mornings and evenings are definitely brisk and the afternoons are comfortable. Many great things are happening in Saint Albans, especially with our business climate. The Tap opened on Olde Main on October 1st and business has been booming! You go down to Olde Main any evening, except Mondays, and all the businesses are
busy, so busy it is hard to find a parking space!

The Goodwill Retail Store is going to be opening on November 18th in the old CVS next to Kroger. Work has begun on the pet supply store that is going in the old Aarons Rent-to-Own building. They have started work on the old Pizza Hut building that will be
a medical cannabis dispensary. Crafts of Coal is going to open a storefront on Olde Main—and opening as well is Valley Naturals Health Food, Whole Foods, Vitamins, and Supplement Store. There is an antique shop, Pickin Preacher, that has opened on Olde Main in the old Refurbish Store, and I notice a storefront called Twisted Treasures also going in on Olde Main. We recently did a ribbon-cutting for
Shining Lites Gift Shop on B Street. Saint Albans is becoming a destination spot for people everywhere!

On October 16th the Fall Y’all Chili Festival took place on Olde Main and it was a great day! The Fall Y’all Committee did an excellent job, once again, on this year’s event. The street was packed and there was a lot of delicious chili! A big thank you to the committee and all of the volunteers! The first weekend of the Haunted Trail in City Park had a tremendous turnout! As usual, the Parks and Rec crew has done an amazing job along with all the volunteers. The 13th edition of the Saint Albans High School Hall of Fame took place on Saturday, October 16th at the high school. Congratulations to all of this year’s inductees—and a big thank you to the Hall of Fame Committee!

In closing, I want to thank the employees of the City of Saint Albans for doing an excellent job and
going the extra distance to help our citizens. Keep up the great work! God Bless each and every one of
you, and God Bless the great City of Saint Albans!
