A Monthly Message from Mayor Scott James
As fall approaches us, Saint Albans continues to move forward also. The 2020 Census for St. Albans, according to the US Census Bureau’s official website, was 10,816. This is down from the 2010 Census of 11,044. This is less than a 1% drop, which is excellent compared to most of WV. The way houses have been selling in town, I believe that the number would be higher today than when the Census was done in 2020. We have had several businesses open recently, with the latest ribbon cutting being done on September 9th at the Family Care East facility on 6th Avenue. Bird Electric Scooters have come to town also! Two to three new businesses have or are going to open soon on Olde Main. When we took office there were 7-8 empty buildings on Olde Main and when these new businesses open, there will only be 2 empty buildings on Olde Main with continued efforts to fill all of them. Saint Albans is becoming known as a great place to do business!
There continue to be a lot of events and activities happening in SA. On Saturday, September 18th we had the Citywide Yard Sale, Founders Day, and the semi-finals of the Battle of the Bands. I want to congratulate the Founders Day Group and The Saint Albans Historical Society for having possibly the biggest and best Founders Day celebration to date… very successful! On October 16th is the Fall Y’all Chili and Wing Festival on Olde Main, and on October 23rd is the Rails Train Day Festival on 4th Avenue around the historic C&O Railroad Station. Mark you calendars!
The C Street project adjacent to Olde Main should be going out to bid very soon. This is going to enhance Olde Main even more!
I have always said that Saint Albans is WV’s best-kept secret but the secret is getting out! Let’s continue making Saint Albans the BEST
COMMUNITY IN WV!
Have a great one and God Bless!
