Mayor's State of the City Address

State of the City of St. Albans – April 2023

Spring has sprung, and activities and events are happening in St. Albans. Take A Walk on The Wildside took place on April 15th and was a great success! This year’s theme was “Water Water Everywhere,” and people of all ages enjoyed it. A big thank-you to Debbie Keener and all the volunteers for their hard work in making this event happen.

The City of St. Albans will host our annual Citywide Spring Cleanup from April 24-May 5. You can get more details on our website,, or by calling the City Garage at 304/722-4259.

On April 29th,  we will honor the late Kenny Sutton by unveiling the Sutton Landing Boat Launch at Roadside Park. There will be a ceremonial unveiling, music, food trucks, and children’s activities throughout the day. This event runs from 1:30 until dark.

On May 20th, we will be having our Citywide Yard Sale. You can register at the Chamber of Commerce by emailing your address to: [email protected].

Also, on May 20th, Dragonpalooza – St. Albans Beer & Music Festival will be in City Park beginning at noon and running until 8:00 pm. This includes the Battle of the Bands, so come out and enjoy. Again, an entire list of activities can be found on our city website.

Save the date for Yak Fest on June 16-17 and the Tour de Coal on June 17th.

The city has taken down 27 dilapidated structures and has at least eight more on the list. Progress is being made on the Junior High demolition. We are waiting for the final cost, determined by the demolition and abatement companies. Once we have that, we will secure financing and demolish the structure. I am so proud of the building department for all they have accomplished, making SA a more beautiful community!

I want to thank ALL the city and MUC employees for the job that they do in making St. Albans a great town and a great place to live! We continue to move SA forward and make it a place that folks from all around enjoy!

This and other factors landed St. Albans as one of the top 50 places to visit WORLDWIDE in 2023 by Forbes Magazine Trip Advisor! What a fantastic honor! God bless everyone, and may God continue to bless the great City of St. Albans!
