The City of St. Albans is pleased to announce significant progress in our ongoing efforts to address dilapidated structures within our community. Through the combined efforts of the St. Albans Building Department, City Hall, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WV DEP), the St. Albans Fire Marshal, and other key partners, we have successfully secured estimates for the next round of the DEP grant. Two properties are currently being signed over to the city and are ready to begin the abatement and demolition process.
This year has presented unique challenges, particularly with an increase in abandoned properties and difficulties in contacting property owners. However, we have made a critical advancement: we now possess the authority to issue search warrants, which enables us to address these neglected structures more effectively. These buildings, which have been blighting our community for the past 20 to 30 years, will finally be removed.
Our commitment to revitalizing St. Albans remains steadfast. By working together, the St. Albans Building Department, City Hall, the WV DEP, the St. Albans Fire Marshal, and other dedicated partners are making our city safer and more attractive for all residents.
We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone involved in these efforts and to the community for its ongoing support. Together, we are making significant strides in enhancing the beauty and safety of St. Albans. Thank you for your continued cooperation as we work towards a brighter future for our city.
